When the original Northgate Transit Center opened in 1992, its design surely turned heads. “Not Quite Your Average Bus Stop,” read The Seattle Times article announcing its opening. “From Interstate 5, it looks like the Ringling Brothers have pitched their tents just south of the Northgate shopping mall,” wrote reporter Bob Lane.
Today, the once-bustling shelter stands rather lonesome. Passenger service has shifted to the bus loop next to the new light rail station. Buses still roll through for layovers, but no-one hops on and off anymore. If you ever boarded one of those blue or green streak buses here, you probably have this whimsical bus stop etched into your memory.
