Dear friend,

I’ve been back in Seattle for almost a month after an eventful time in Europe — I ran the Berlin Marathon, met sketchers in several cities, visited my 87-year-old dad in his remote pueblo in Badajoz, and hosted a Sketcher Press book event with James Hobbs in London.

I was able to take that long of a trip because, back in mid-August, I left my job of 19 years at The Seattle Times to focus on Sketcher Press, the publishing imprint I launched back in 2022.

True to the “learn by doing” spirit, I’m making strides with Sketcher Press. Along with publishing books and the biannual magazine On the Spot, I’m now beginning to distribute sketcher books and zines by international artists whose work I admire — including Lapin, Marielle Durand, Simonetta Capecchi, Detlef Surrey, Oliver Hoeller and Murray Dewhurst.

It's often hard to find publications by overseas artists in the U.S., and I hope Sketcher Press can help fill that gap. If you have a self-published book or zine you'd like me to consider for the Sketcher Press Bookstore, please let me know.

With the future of Sketcher Press in mind, I will be crossing the pond again next week to be at Rendezvous du Carnet de Voyage in Clermont Ferrand. I'm excited to reconnect with sketcher friends there — and to meet new artists to collaborate with.

On the teaching side, I'm back at Cole Art Studio in Edmonds. My next one-day workshop will be on January 31.

What have you been up to lately? I'd love to hear from you if you have time to drop me a line.

Cheers,

Gabi

P.S. The last sketch I did in London before coming back last month turned out to be my favorite:
